Who we are

Leadership

Company founder Tyler J. Finkle brings over twenty years of experience in historic preservation and construction management. Starting as a laborer, Tyler gradually advanced through the ranks, gaining experience as a carpenter, estimator, project coordinator, project manager, regional manager, and division manager for both small regional and large international companies. Having hands-on experience at every level of construction has proved invaluable.

Tyler’s experience in historic preservation began while restoring and rehabilitating the mansions of the “Gilded Age” on Belleview Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island while working for Kirby Perkins Construction (now Kirby Construction). Kirby Construction, founded and led by renowned America’s Cup Sailor Jerry Kirby, is the go to builder in Newport for Designer or “Trophy” homes as well as the preservation of the pre-income tax era “cottages”. It was during this time that Tyler learned the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Preservation of Historic Properties. The Kirby team of artisans and craftworkers that Tyler cut his teeth with have earned numerous Awards for Historic Preservation.

Prior to founding Finkle Preservation & Construction, Tyler was hired by longtime family friend Richard T. Lohr, owner of International Chimney Corporation of Buffalo, NY (Now ICC Commonwealth) the engineering and contracting firm famous for relocating six historic lighthouses including National Landmark Cape Hatteras Light Station on the Outer Banks of NC. Rick supported Tyler in his desire to grow an ancillary service arm of an industrial company into a legitimate profit center. Tyler grew the division from a single restoration crew averaging a million dollars in revenue annually into multiple restoration crews grossing over fifteen million dollars annually. Tyler and his teams have earned many awards along the way from various entities including The Preservation League of New York State, The New York Landmarks Conservancy, Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, The International Association of Structural Movers, The National Lighthouse Museum, and the American Council of Engineering Companies.

Over the course of his career, Tyler has successfully managed over a quarter of a billion dollars in construction projects, spanning privately funded grassroots initiatives, commercial developments, publicly funded institutional projects, and joint venture collaborations.

Tyler is a graduate of The Gunnery Preparatory School in Washington, CT, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business & Economics from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
